We have an exciting program that will highlight contemporary mental health research in Australia and New Zealand, and bring together national and international speakers covering domains such as: stress and traumatic experiences; e-health initiatives; child/adolescent mental health; employment and mental health; epidemiology; the neurobiology of mental disorders; pharmacogenomics; mental health in an ageing society; and a focus on innovative treatment.
Preconference highlights include:
- The ISRII/ASPR e-health Workshop 2009: From Research to Implementation which will address the need to increase the recognition and use of e-health tools for mental health, with a focus on big picture issues such as sustainability, dissemination and strategic directions. It is designed to facilitate engagement between researchers, governmental health policy makers, GP and health groups, representatives from NGOs and consumers.
- A workshop on Managing trauma in children and adolescents living through natural disaster: Clinical, research and policy advances in which participants will learn about effective approaches to managing trauma and other mental health issues in children and adolescents who have been exposed to natural disaster, including a discussion of current national policy. This workshop will benefit child and adolescent mental health workers, primary and secondary teachers, general practitioners, emergency and police staff, and policy providers in education and health.
- The Neurobiology of stress and emotion regulation workshop in which national and international experts will provide a refresher and update on the neurobiological substrates underlying stress and emotion regulation in humans and animal models, as well as presenting recent and innovative research shedding light on the causes, progression, and treatment of stress-related psycho-affective disorders. The workshop is aimed at both clinicians and researchers in the field of psychiatry, psychology, neuroscience, and associated disciplines.
